San Diego... Discovered by the Germans in 1904

They named it San Diago which of course in German means a whale's vagina...

Yes.. that's where I am right now. I'm staying on Shelter Island, near Point Loma, which has a view of downtown and of course the water. Surprisingly I got a bayside view from my room. Nice.

San Diego is really nice. It has a Spanish influence, a beautiful beach, tons of palm trees, and lots of houses. I'm not gonna lie--the suburbs made me miss home a bit. Anyways, I digress..

I'll be straight with you--I have a bias against Southern California. I hate how people call it SoCal, I hate the people who think that they are SO awesome because they're from there, I hate the pollution, the shallowness of the people, the traffic and so on.. Maybe it's because I'm from Northern California.. but if/when I return to CA, I hope I never have to live in SoCal. Is that wrong?

I'm here for a diabetes conference. Not exciting, but hey.. I'm getting paid to do this!

We were just there in July! We stayed at the Holiday Inn Bayside there on Shelter Island.

I too was there just a few weeks ago. Did you see a house with crazy sea shell sculptures all over the yard?

Julie beat me! I was going to ask if Northern Californians think it's cool to call it NoCal, but I guessed wrong. I hate Southern California for those same reasons, but I hate it even more because the weather is so nice and the beaches are so nice that it makes me wish it wasn't so lame and the people weren't so lame because otherwise it'd be a great place to be. I'd even get over the pollution, but the lame-o's make it not so hot.

Ummmm.... what?!!! But hey, maybe some of (all of?) the people are ridic but it's really really nice there. I could totally live there. I've actually been daydreaming about it lately. How could you not want to be surrounded by a beautiful warm beach palm tree filled environ all the time? I just really hate NoCal snobs. Can't you get a hint from the NO in NO cal. You guys are NOt cool. Just kidding. I'm not from california so I don't really understand what you all are talking about. I'll play along though. Plus hey, I have to be loyal to my lovely freshman roomate who was is and always will be a SoCal beach chic.

Getting paid to stay in a room with a bayside view in SF? Sounds great! I somewhat agree with you about southern california. I am from north Orange County (aka, nothing like Newport Beach). Anyway, I sometimes don't like telling people where I'm from simply because I don't like what they will immediately conclude about me. Nonetheless, it's home. I will never move back there (traffic, crowdedness, expense, etc.), but I will always love it. If we do move back to CA it will be somewhere in the north, so perhaps I will be one of the few un-biased californians. :)
PS-You still enjoying the job?
